Bogeymann Says: "Hobos love the General too!!"
National Hobo Convention 2003 &
East Coast Hobo Gathering

Bobby & BogeymannYes, Kennesaw was represented at the National Hobo Convention in Britt, Iowa and the East Coast Hobo Gathering in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania.Still Good - Norman Rockwell 1927 Kennesaw Hobo D.A. Foos a.k.a. "Bogeymann" traveled to these national events to spread the rumors of a new railroad museum in Kennesaw. He has participated in these events since 1989 and looks forward to them anually. Here is a link to the semi-official hobo website: www.hobo.com.
Here is a little Hobo history too, from the Bogeymann himself:

"The original Hobos were Civil War Veterans from the South, who had lost their homes to the war and to the early Recontruction invasion of "Carpetbaggers & Scallawags" from the North. They took to the Rails to look for a better life in other parts unknown. The term "Hobo" actually comes from a Farming/Gardening Hoe which many men caried with them to work the fields along the Rails for a simple wage to survive. Often they would carry their belongings in a a piece of cloth (usually a red or blue bandana) attached to the staff of the tool or a stick. Sometimes the railroads would hire Hobos to work on their lines. These Hobos turned railroad workers were known as "Boomers". Many of these Veteran Hobos never settled after the war and were destined to travel the rest of their lives on the Rails. If a hobo settled in one area along a line and began a family he was refered to as a "HomeGuard". Traveling the Rails was the fate of many men after the ravages of the Civil War and this was a very important influence affecting the economic and population changes which occured throughout the country after the war."
